A Shield Around

shield4          “But you, LORD, are a shield around me…” Psalm 3:3a

Depending on time and place, shields could take different size and shape; but the purpose remained the same, personal protection in hand-to-hand combat. The warrior needed to know and master the skill of using the shield which had to move with the attack no matter the direction.

Roman soldishield3ers had a shield whose shape allowed them the formation of packed legionaries overlapping their shields to provide a protective barrier and umbrella. This was  called the testudo formation which was not invincible and required all men to move in unison.

King David describes very simply in Psalm 3:3 an unprecedented shield, unheard-of and extraordinary. The shield is The Lord himself and his protection surrounds me entirely above, beneath, around, without and within!

The Apostle Paul put it in other words: ” If God is for us, who can be against us?”

  1. Confortante y provee seguridad en medio de tiempos inseguros: “Eres escudo alrededor de mí”. Gracias Señor Jesús.
