Carlos Alberto Quiroga “Papo”

20 November 1992 – 24 October 2011

Carlos came to my fourth grade class in 2002 with the nickname “enano” (midget) which is not consider offensive in this culture but has an affectionate connotation. However in his adolescence years he became better known as “Papo”, a nickname from home; the meaning must be a family inside thing.

Making friends was natural for Papo who had an impish smile and great sense of humor, loved to laugh, played jokes, full of energy, always “busy” in some mischievous activity.

As it happens in many cases among the youth of our Christian School student body, Papo struggled in taking a stand alternating his days with ups and downs; days of faithful Sunday School attendance and days of partying and drinking. As far as I know he never openly made a profession of faith.

Three months ago he went to Spain to live with his mom. Early in the morning of last Monday October 24th, he crossed a high-speed highway where pedestrians are not allowed and was hit by a car taking his life instantly.

The shocking lesson is being repeated; there is no age to die…are you ready?
