Missionary of Encouragement

Gabe Meiers, my college friend and co-worker, just came to visit the church and school in Camiri. His 10-day itinerary was busy with many different activities. He taught Friday Night Bible studies, adult Sunday School class, Saturday night young people’s meeting and visited with many believers in their homes. One of his messages was on his personal experience in managing his own house before taking the role of a leader in the church, to the youth he spoke about the satisfaction the Bread of Life can give with an evangelistic emphasis; another message that made a great impact in my heart was about Barnabas, the apostle of encouragement, but of more impact is his friendship, a living walking message about caring and encouragement.

At school he spoke in our chapel time on Fridays and gave a devotional during our every morning line-up. He made time to talk with potentially at-risk kids and had a listening ear to the concerns and suggestions of teachers and staff. I personally took advantage of his willingness to help and brought him to my 4th grade class to give me a hand in teaching the writing process leaving me with new ideas so that in the end my students learn grammar, punctuation, self-expression and deepen their appreciation for other people’s writing. He also prepared a workshop for the teaching staff about reading motivation, comprehension strategies and skills and developing permanent reading habits. The three hours went fast with his interesting topic in creative PowerPoint presentation, participatory questions, refreshments and a raffle of prizes he brought from the States.

He is now back to the States, but I know his interest, support and involment in the work of the Lord here in Camiri through the school ministry has increased and will continue.

“Thanks Gabe for your visit and come back soon!”

  1. Thanks for the update regarding Gabe’s visit. I am doing a report next Tues. April 5 to our Mission Committee about Escuela Christiana Camirini, and this info. will be helpful.

Tell the children and staff hello for me, and from our church. We pray for them daily
